Tradition and quality since 1901

Kaffistova has served Norwegian food since 1901 and is one of the most traditional places to eat in Oslo. You will find us at Kristian IVs gate 2, one block from Karl Johans gate.

When the doors opened, the dining room was furnished with hand-carved furniture. Several pieces are now on display at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History at Bygdøy. The interior is now modern Scandinavian design, but the idea is the same as over a hundred years ago: good Norwegian food made with care.

The menu follows the seasons and is built on Norwegian food traditions and ingredients. Raspeball (potato dumplings) and kjøttkaker (Norwegian meat cakes) are among the classics, served in generous portions. The meat cakes are the most popular dish, with over four tonnes served each year. All cakes and pastries are baked on site, and our pastry chef also makes whole cakes to order. Many guests from Japan, France and the USA enjoy tasting traditional Norwegian food, and many return every year.

Kaffistova is open from lunch to late evening. At lunch you get quick service of both hot and cold dishes. In the evening we serve dinner, with time to linger. Tourists from Norway and abroad, business travellers and loyal regulars sit side by side. Hotel guests are offered a traditional Norwegian breakfast every morning, with a good selection of breads and toppings and hot dishes such as eggs and bacon.

We recommend booking a table.
