Christmas Eve at Straand Hotell
Celebrate the holidays in true Christmas spirit. The day begins with a Christmas service in Vrådal Church, followed by a torchlight procession leading to Nisseland (Santa’s Land), where mulled wine is served from the black cauldron.
Back at the hotel, guests are invited to a Christmas aperitif in Straand Bar, where hotel director Lars Arne Straand — the fifth-generation host — reads the Christmas Gospel. Then follows a festive Christmas dinner in the beautifully decorated restaurant, before the evening continues with carols, dancing around the Christmas tree, and a visit from Santa Claus himself. The celebration concludes with dancing and live music from the hotel’s Christmas band.
The Days Between Christmas and New Year
Between Christmas and New Year, you can combine crisp mountain air and winter activities with cozy moments at the hotel. A ski bus runs daily to Vrådal Panorama Ski Center, and for those seeking more adventure, the area offers cross-country skiing, ice fishing, winter swimming, and charming local visits to Sølvsmedtunet or Galleri Samvirke.
At the hotel, you can enjoy a Christmas buffet, relax by the fireplace with coffee and kling (traditional pastry), join children’s activities, or take a swim in the pool. Each evening, the hotel’s Christmas orchestra sets the mood with live music and dancing.
New Year’s Celebration at Straand
End the year in style. The evening begins with a New Year’s cocktail served by Director Lars Arne Straand, followed by a festive dinner in the hotel restaurant. Later, enjoy a torchlight walk, winter swimming for the brave, and Vrådal’s largest fireworks display lighting up the night sky. The celebration continues in the piano bar with late-night supper and live music to welcome the New Year.
