A hidden coastal gem

Sometimes it’s worth treating yourself to the very best, together with someone you care about.

Knutholmen is located in Kalvåg on the west coast of Norway, in the municipality of Bremanger in Vestland county. This is a small coastal village surrounded by the open sea, skerries, and rugged coastline – a place where the ocean and weather define the atmosphere. Here, proximity to the sea shapes the entire experience, along with the calm that comes from being far from the usual tourist routes.

You check into one of the hotel’s finest rooms, restored from traditional boathouses in an authentic boutique style. Upon arrival, fresh fruit and champagne are waiting in your room, before you can retreat and enjoy two hours entirely to yourselves in the floating sauna – with warmth, sea air, and views of the open coastal landscape. In the evening, a four-course dinner is served, based on the day’s catch and the finest seasonal ingredients from the Kalvåg area. The menu follows the rhythm of the sea and what is locally available.

The next morning begins with fresh sea air and breakfast by the quay. For those who want to explore the area, there are hiking trails, coastal scenery, and local experiences nearby. Guided tours reveal the landscape, Galleri Torsheim showcases local art, and heritage walks offer insight into over 5,000 years of coastal history.
