A Family-run fjord hotel since 1640
In the small fjord village of Solvorn in Western Norway, you will find Walaker Hotell – the oldest family-run hotel in Norway. The same family has welcomed guests here since 1640, and today the eighth and ninth generations carry on the tradition of hosting travelers from around the world.
The hotel sits right by Lusterfjorden, one of the inner branches of the famous Sognefjord. Surrounded by mountains, orchards and quiet fjord landscapes, Walaker offers a peaceful base for exploring this part of Norway. Guests can swim from the hotel’s small beach in a sheltered cove, relax in the garden filled with roses and lilacs, or wander through the historic village with its boathouses and fjord views.
The region of Inner Sogn is known for its high-quality local produce, and the hotel’s kitchen makes full use of it. Menus change with the seasons and feature ingredients such as fjord seafood, venison from the surrounding mountains, berries from nearby farms and locally produced cheeses and juices. The focus on regional ingredients reflects the strong food traditions of the area.
Walaker Hotel is also one of only two hotels in Norway to receive two Michelin Keys from the Michelin Guide. The distinction highlights hotels that offer an exceptional stay, where atmosphere, character and hospitality create a memorable experience.
The jury described the hotel as: "Somewhere truly unique and exceptional in every way, where a memorable experience is always guaranteed. A hotel of character, personality and charm that’s run with obvious pride and considerable care."
Art has also become part of the Walaker experience. In connection with the family’s 300-year anniversary, the historic farm building on the property was transformed into Galleri Walaker 300. The gallery hosts changing exhibitions every summer, featuring contemporary Norwegian artists.
The hotel is open for the season from early April until late October.
