A Remote Island Experience
Thirty kilometres off the Norwegian coast, a secluded archipelago rises from the open sea. Sharp mountain peaks tower above islands shaped by wind, waves and the North Atlantic over thousands of years. This is Træna, one of Norway’s oldest fishing communities. Here - at the outer edge of the Helgeland coast - lies Ytri.
At Ytri, the experience goes beyond a traditional hotel stay. Surrounded by sea, skerries and mountains, guests are immersed in nature, silence and space. Life here follows the rhythm of light, weather and tides, creating days that invite presence, calm and clarity.
Inspired by Træna’s historic fishing villages, Ytri is built with robust materials and architecture adapted to both landscape and climate. The hotel offers 38 rooms and suites, all bright and understated, with panoramic views of the sea and the iconic Trænstaven mountain. Shared spaces are designed for both connection and quiet moments, always with the horizon close by. A private guest marina, sandy beach and two hotel boats provide access to island hopping and transport between the surrounding islands.
Days may begin with a refreshing swim in the sea, followed by time in the outdoor Arctic Wellness area. Here, electric and wood-fired saunas, hot tubs and a stone staircase leading directly into the ocean create a setting for deep relaxation. For those seeking activity, the hotel offers a gym and access to e-bikes, kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, as well as fishing and diving equipment.
Dining is an integral part of the stay at Ytri. Meals are created using fresh coastal ingredients and vegetables grown in the hotel’s own greenhouse. Whether dining in the seafood restaurant, at the Chef’s Table or enjoying a more casual meal in the lounge bar, the sea is always present as view, ingredient and inspiration.
