Sail through one of Telemark’s hidden gems

Embark on a journey filled with history, nature, and true Norwegian hospitality.

Step aboard the historic veteran boat M/S Fram for a scenic lock cruise through Norway’s inland archipelago – and spend the night at the charming Straand Hotel in Vrådal.

Built in 1909, M/S Fram has been sailing the lakes of Nisser and Vråvatn for over a century. Today, she invites you on a leisurely voyage through a landscape of small islands, smooth granite shores, sandy beaches, and towering mountains. The highlight of the trip is passing through Småstraum Lock – the highest hand-operated lock in Northern Europe, still working exactly as it did when built in 1914.

After your cruise, relax at Straand Hotel – one of Telemark’s most historic hotels. Established in 1864 as a coach station, it has been run by the same family for generations and is now in the care of the fourth and fifth generation. Here, warm hospitality meets homemade cuisine based on fresh local produce, all in an atmosphere steeped in tradition. Take a swim in the indoor pool, or simply unwind and let time slow down.
