Cuisine at Hotel Ullensvang

DINING ROOM:

The chefs at Hotel Ullensvang follow a rigorous set of quality requirements.  The use of local produce and the skills of our chefs ensure an extremely high quality for the food we serve. We are renowned for our impressive “Hardanger buffet” which comprises an abundance of cold and warm dishes.

The hotel’s main restaurant has a unique charm with its décor of granite, cast iron and the traditional rose painting and other “ancient” ornaments and antiques.

The dining room was completed in 1990 and can seat up to 500 persons. In addition, there are two smaller dining rooms – the “Komponisten” (Grieg’s dining room) and the “Meteorologen” (cabinet minister Nils Hertzberg’s dining room). Total capacity is therefore 600 persons. The dining room is built at varying levels, providing each table with a wonderful view of the fjord.

Hotel Ullensvang is a member of both the “Taste the Coast” gastronomic network (www.smakavkysten.no) and “Hardanger Menu” (www.hardangermeny.no).

A LA CARTE:

Our à la carte restaurant has been named “Zanoni” and the menu includes both Norwegian and international dishes with an Italian character. The restaurant has an open kitchen, is modern and pure in style and affords wonderful views of the fjord and the glacier.

There is a small lobby bar beside the restaurant for pre-dinner drinks. You can also sample simple dishes and choose from a huge range of coffees in the lobby bar.

We also have a dance bar on the ground floor where you can enjoy live music every day of the week except Sunday. Enjoy an evening of excellent company with a cocktail or a glass of wine.

Nearby the bar are a number of rooms and lounges where you can enjoy an aperitif before or cognac after your meal, or just relax after dinner.

“MUNKENS TRØYST”:

Behind the beautifully carved doors in the lower ground floor, you will find “Munkens Trøyst” which translates as “The Solace of Monks”. The name was inspired by the old monastery which once stood in Lofthus. This is a place where good drink is in focus, including age-old traditions and the culture of drink. You can sample a vast range of beers and wines, not forgetting the wonderful Hardanger cider. The décor will take you on a trip back in time.

This is actually a surviving part of the original hotel building from 1865. “Munkens Trøyst” is the perfect setting for an aperitif, dinner or coffee with cognac.
