• Mountain trail: A trail taking you into the high mountains, via the Munketreppene stairs to Nosi and the Hardangervidda (approx. 950 metres above sea level). The Munketreppene stairs are thought to have been made by the monks who lived here in the 13th century. It takes around 5 hours to walk from Lofthus to Nosi and back again.
• Hike around Elvadalen valley, lunch break with hot food served. We may even barbeque some reindeer meat. Time for the trip is around 2 hours from the hotel and back. (*)
• Fruit trail: The Hardanger fruit trail takes you on a journey to the local history of Norwegian fruit production. Ullensvang has 600,000 fruit trees, and has truly earned the right to be known as “Norway's orchard”. Around 80% of Norway’s cherry production comes from this area. The season when the cherry trees are in flower is one of extreme scenic beauty. The fruit trail is about a 2-hour walk but can be broken up if you prefer. (*)
• Can be combined with a guided tour of the gardens (Hagevandring). Guided tour between apple orchards to Ullensvang church then on to Planteforsk Ullensvang (Norway’s foremost research centre for fruit and berries). This research centre also won an architectural award in the year 2000. Visitors can book guided tours of the laboratory and research areas. From there, the trip continues to a local farm where you can learn about growing fruit, past and present, brewing cider and beer and can taste the farm produce.
• Husedalen in Kinsarvik (walk). A valley leading from Kinsarvik in to the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. This 3-hour walk follows good paths through wonderful scenery and past four huge, breathtaking waterfalls.

• Hjølmodalen in Eidfjord, a narrow and extremely steep road winding its way round 25 hairpin bends to take you up to the Hardangervidda plateau. Driving time: 1.5 hours one way.
• Guided tours on the glacier: Guided tours on the Folgefonna glacier. The trip starts from Odda, up Buerdalen valley to the Buerbreen glacier and Reinanuten, and takes around 6 hours. Book at least one day in advance. Driving time: 35 minutes to Buer. Season: the main season is from around 1 May to about 1 October.
