Hanne på Høyden

Organic restaurant in Bergen

Hanne på Høyden serves local, organic food. The restaurant is well known for its use of traditional Norwegian ingredients from local producers. The restaurant name comes from the chef herself, Hanne, who gathers birch leaves, bear's garlic, pine shoots and other exciting plants growing wild. Hanne was named Chef of the Year in 2005 and won the Ingrid Espelid Hovig award for culinary culture in 2010.

Her restaurant, located at Fosswinckelsgate number 18, has been the site of food production and sale of food and drink for close to 120 years. Ferdinand Brun’s bakers and confectioner's shop, more commonly known as Baker Brun, opened on 4 May 1883, in a house with a delightful façade and fittings. Ferdinand Brun's great grandfather was also the poet Johan Nordahl Brun, who wrote the anthem for Bergen.
After a period of financial difficulties, Ferdinand Brun moved his business to Damsgård and the Anthroposophic Society in Bergen moved into the premises in Fosswinckelsgate. Cornelia and Den Gode Klode have also occupied the old baker's shop, as restaurants.

Hanne Frosta took over the building in 2001 and opened her restaurant, Hanne på Høyden. Her main goal today is the same as when she opened – good flavours and surprising, innovative combinations. Hanne constantly strives to find the highest quality ingredients and to create mouth-watering yet unpretentious dishes with these. We hope this makes for a relaxed and homely atmosphere. The old baker's shop is now home to Hanne på Høyden. Welcome!
