In the In the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund, in a disused wharfside warehouse, is one of Norway’s best fish restaurants. For centuries, the waters off the coast of Ålesund have been an essential larder for the region of Sunnmøre – and this heritage is continued by Sjøbua restaurant.
Sjøbua was opened by chef Ove Fjørtoft in 1986, his philosophy being to make use of the local ingredients from the sea to create a richly varied menu.
In 2006, Sjøbua will celebrate 20 years of serving satisfied guests with fresh, deliciously prepared food and good drink. The restaurant has the perfect maritime location, right on the harbour in Ålesund centre.
According to season and the catch of the day, you can enjoy dishes of monkfish, cod, flounder, catfish, stingray etc. on the menu.
The restaurant also has its own tank for live lobster and you can choose the lobster you would like the chef to prepare for you.
