The prison at Leirvik was built in 1864 and was operational for around a century. The last prison guard, Bertinus “Tinusen” Larsen and his wife took good care of the prisoners and were well-known for their excellent cooking. The prison was fondly known among locals as “Hotel Tinus”. Today, these historical walls are now home to a restaurant and bar, and you can still come here to enjoy great food and drink. The actual cell area now houses a peaceful lounge – called “Lounge Tinus”. The perfect place to relax with a good glass of wine and some tapas. The restaurant is located in the cellar under the cells and the courthouse. Whitewashed walls and slate flooring take you almost immediately back in time. The wine room is located under the old courthouse, and the bottles are stored behind bars. Lit torches on the walls and white cloths on the tables create the perfect mood for an entertaining gathering of up to 12 persons.
