Engebret is named after its founder, Engebret Christoffersen, who started the restaurant in 1857. At that time Bankplassen was the town’s most fashionable
area, and its lively theatre scene meant that there was a particular need for a cosy and intimate café for actors and theatregoers alike. Engebret Café has been the setting for a long series of major events through the decades.

Our aim is to serve tasty and tempting dishes based on first-class ingredients. Come and enjoy a cosy meal in charming surroundings steeped in tradition and history.
