Kongsvold is the gateway to the Dovrefjell national park, where you can delight in a complete high mountain eco system.

Historical monuments from as far back as the Stone Age, pits for catching wild reindeer and constantly new finds of arrowheads etc.
The pilgrimage trail from Oslo to Trondheim passes through the hamlet at Kongsvold.

Kongeveien, or the Royal Route, which was followed by all the Danish-Norwegian kings on their way to their coronation at Nidaros cathedral also passes through the hamlet at Kongsvold.

Vinjes Vårstigen is a fascinating cultural-historical trail, with a number of information boards.

Vesle-Hjerkinn is home to the only reconstructed “sælehus” on the Dovrefjell mountain. This is a traditional shelter for travellers, and a predecessor of the mountain lodges.
The botany at Knutshøene has gained world renown. The Flora Danica book from 1750 portrays several of the mountain plants from Kongsvold. Guided tours can be arranged.

Kongsvold Fjellhage or rock garden, located behind the mountain lodge, has a selection of the mountain plants from the Dovrefjell mountain. Guided tours on request.

The mining museum in Folldal is well worth a visit, including a trip with the mine train into the mine.

We also recommend a walk through Grimsdalen valley, which points east-west with the Rondane mountains on the south and the Dovrefjell mountain on the north. This is a delightful valley with a number of active mountain farms where you can purchase traditional farm fare.

Vinsterdalen valley also has a number of mountain farms still in use today and open to visitors. The valley also forms part of the pilgrimage trail from Kongsvold to Trondheim.

The burial site at Vang in Oppdal is well worth a visit.

Fokstumyrene moors is perhaps Norway’s most beautiful bird sanctuary and is only a 15-minute drive from Kongsvold.
