Hotell Refsnes Gods & Geotourism

• At our hotel, the emphasis is on peace and relaxation. We also offer a number of packages featuring good food, wine, art and outdoor activities, such as wine courses, golf packages and boat trips.

• The original main building from 1767 is a landmark on the island of Jeløy, and houses the Munch Restaurant and function suite. The original interior and atmosphere have been preserved with furniture and furnishings in the elegant style of the past. Our staff is glad to recount the history of the “manor” and its owners to guests, further reinforcing the experience of staying in an historical setting.

• Food: The menus composed at Refsnes Gods are inspired by traditional dishes from the manors in Østfold, for example Jerusalem artichoke soup, duck and veal. Our chefs often make use of seasonal and local ingredients such as asparagus, king oyster mushrooms, chicken and Norwegian strawberries. We are constantly on the outlook for new suppliers of local produce. We also work hard to create historical menus which have been adapted to suit modern cuisine.

• Local guests: Our restaurant is very popular with locals, particularly for occasions which require a special menu and setting. We arrange regular evenings with varying themes, such as game and wine or Norwegian aquavit, in order to promote interest in food and drink.

• Art: Refsnes Gods is also home to art. Today, the hotel has around 400 original pieces, mainly Scandinavian contemporary art. Around 80 artists are represented, from old masters such as Munch and Weidemann to younger, exciting artists such as Fredrik Raddum and Mona Eckhoff Sørmo. Guided tours of the different works of art are held for guests, and often include visits to local galleries. There are numerous galleries in Moss/Jeløy which form an important part of tourism activities in the area. Refsnes Gods is actively involved in the promotion of art in the local area, and the tourist boards view art as an important element for future investment.

• Jeløy island is the perfect setting for outdoors recreation; walking among the manor gardens, possibly combined with a visit to a gallery. The Oslofjord is only 150 metres from the hotel, where guests can make use of the hotel’s own wharf. We also provide boating activities in cooperation with local companies.
