The hotel Refsnes Gods is beautifully situated at Jeløy, a stone’s throw from the Oslo Fjord. The distinctive main hotel building, anno 1767, with its two towers is easily recognizable from the fjord. Refsnes Gods has been a centre of social gatherings and accommodation for almost 250 years.

It started with the second generation Chrystie (originally from Scotland) who built Refsnes as his leisure farm. Their son David and his beautiful wife Sophie were a very popular host and hostess, and their parties attracted the bourgeoisie and dignitaries from far and wide.

Many well known Norwegians enjoyed the hospitality of Refsnes Gods through the years, including Edvard Munch, Peder Balcke, Camilla Collett, Hans Gude and Kong Oscar II of Sweden and Norway. Today Refsnes Gods is widely known for its cuisine and well stocked wine cellar. In addition the hotel has a unique art collection, with 400 original works of art which decorate all the hotel rooms and communal areas.

The monumental building was built not as a hotel, but as a ”great home”. Perhaps that is precisely why Refsnes Gods today is a place with soul and atmosphere where one can enjoy the good things of life.
