It is the year 1891. The aristocracy and upper classes of Europe are seeking new and interesting destinations offering experiences of natural beauty.

It is a choosy clientèle the Hotel Union Øye on the Hjørund Fjord opens its doors to this year, but the guest books show that it rose to the challenge. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, King Oscar II of Norway and Sweden, Queen Maud and King Haakon VII of Norway are some of the notabilities who found what they were seeking here. The hotel has been restored to the original style of its heyday. No two rooms are alike, except in having comfortable four-poster beds and modern bathroom/toilet. But telephone, television and radio are deliberate omissions.

A visit to the Hotel Union Øye is intended to be more than a visit to an interesting place - it is also to be travel in time.
