Grotli Høyfjellshotel & Geotourism

In the near future, Grotli will be in the centre of two national parks; Reinheimen in the north and the planned Breheimen in the south. With this location, Grotli is an excellent base for adventures in unspoilt scenery, and there are a number of plans to develop activities using local people as guides and incorporating local culture and facilities – we can for example mention the old “waterways” in the district between the mountains and the valley.

Skjåk is the driest area in Norway, and in the olden days water had to be channelled down from the mountain lakes to the farms to help with the crops. These waterways are true masterpieces of engineering – in some places they appear to have got water to run upstream.

Skjåk is also worth a visit for its local handicrafts such as wood carving, for which both Gudbrandsdalen and Skjåk are well-known. Skjåk-Ola is the most famous wood carver from this district. You can enjoy some of the best arts and crafts from the village at the Bø-stugu gallery in Bismo. For more information, visit the municipality’s web site at skjak.kommune.no
