Geilosmiu – From coal pit to robot
A large museum/adventure centre with the aim of portraying the history of Geilo over the past 2000 years, still under planning. One part has been completed and is open for visitors – at Brødrene Øyo AS. Guided tours for groups can be booked by contacting the factory. Cultural monuments – Round the Ustedalsfjord
Follow the 12-km long, idyllic nature and cultural trail around the Ustedalsfjord to visit a fascinating number of cultural monuments: Geilojordet with houses dating back 2-3 centuries, Fekjo cultural monument park with Viking burial mounds, Tufte bridge built in traditional log construction and a number of pits used for coal burning and traces of an ancient road. Information boards describe flora and fauna, the local culture and ancient settlements in the area.
Fekjo Cultural Monument Park – Burial mounds from the Viking era, ca. year 900. 21 burial mounds of which 10 have been excavated. The park also has coal pits, an ancient road which was once part of the old Normannsslepene, an old hay barn, a cowshed and an old stone fence.
Tufte bridge – Bridge built using old-fashioned log construction, a genuine copy of the old, protected bridge from 1884. The ancient Normannsslepene comes down here – the old route followed over the mountains from West Norway.
Hol old church – Idyllic location on the Holsfjord, 15 minutes’ drive east of Geilo. Built as a small stave church in the 13th century. Open in season.
Museums – the olden day farms had a number of buildings, often 10-12. On a visit to Hol village museum and Dagali Museum, you can explore old farms complete with all buildings dating back 2-300 years. The exhibition rooms display national costumes, rose-painted objects and various types of tools. You gain a fascinating insight into the way of life for olden day farmers and communities. Definitely worth a visit – with plenty of time to fully enjoy a fascinating piece of history.

Dagali museum with 10 old farm buildings and an exhibition room, located on the village road in Dagali. Also includes Leggsta’n, an old burial site from 1819-1850.
Dokken mountain farm – Protected farm in Sudndalen valley dating back to the 18th century, with traditional attic, house on pillars, barn, cowshed, stable, cookhouse, bathhouse and blacksmith. No guided tours.
Geilojordet – Idyllic hamlet with old buildings from 18th and 19th centuries in Geilo centre.
Open: Daily during the summer, with outdoors café.
