Welcome to Bårdshaug Herregård

Historic Accommodation in Orkanger, Norway

Bårdshaug Herregård is located on the innermost banks of the Orkdalsfjord, in the centre of Orkanger and at the mouth of one of Norway’s best salmon fishing rivers, the Orkla.
1 hour from Trondheim airport, Værnes and 30 minutes from Trondheim.

The walls of Bårdshaug are full of history, which we are more than willing to recount.
As in the words of Toppen Bech in his newly published book Herskapelige Norge: “This is the story of a small hunting lodge which got lost way up in Trøndelag, and of the owner of the house, world citizen Christian Thams, founder of the Thams harbour railway and a huge name in the history of the Orkla group of companies. Back home in his native village, he was fondly known as the Great Mogul.”

The history of Bårdshaug Herregård is a real-life fairytale – about a family and one man in particular who was not willing to give way to pettiness, but who applied his mind and his enterprising spirit to develop amazing companies, even on a modern scale.

Bårdshaug today has mainly been preserved in its glory from Thams’ time. A charming blend of Norwegian national romantic traditions and central European inspiration, with the tower, courtyard and garden. The interior reflects trends from all over the world.
The building bears the mark of Chr. Thams – a unique, internationally enthusiastic person.
