Britannia Hotel is housed in a wonderfully majestic building right at the heart of the historical centre of Trondheim, nearby the town's most popular pedestrian street, Nordre. It is only a 30-km drive from Værnes Airport, Trondheim and the hotel’s central location makes it the perfect base for shopping and sightseeing. The town centre has a rich variety of small boutiques and shopping centres, and is a hive of activity. The town's famous landmark, the beautiful Nidaros Cathedral, is only a few minutes' walk from the hotel.

The hotel itself is somewhat of a cultural landmark in Trondheim. It was opened in 1897 by Peter Albert Clausen, then owner, and is one of the last remaining "emperor-style hotels", inspired by the modern baroque style and design which emerged at the change of the century. The Britannia is often referred to as the white swan or pearl of Trondheim, and has a wealth of tradition and history as a hotel and restaurant.

The hotel has evolved with the times and now has every modern facility but has successfully retained its classical style and elegance. The Britannia has a number of different restaurants providing guests with a rich choice of dining options, and is recognised as the leading restaurateur in Trondheim. Perhaps the most popular restaurant in the hotel is the Palmehaven, where historical traditions for gastronomy and culinary art are very much still alive.

Britannia Hotel has some of Norway's most exciting restaurants. There are four restaurants to choose between in addition to the piano bar and cocktail bar. This means that we can provide the setting, the food and drink for any occasion.

The Palmehaven and Jonathan Mat & Vinkjeller restaurants are our most famous, maintaining our long traditions in gastronomy and the culture of food. The other two: Hjørnet Bar & Brasserie and 1897 represent more modern and trendy food and bar concepts.

Britannia Hotel is ideal for minor and major events. Our reception rooms are excellent for private parties as well as banquets and gala dinners.

The Britannia is also proud to present its new spa and fitness centre, where you can enjoy a wonderful massage, work out, relax in one of our saunas, take a dip in the pool or take a break in one of our relaxation rooms.
